Default Club Car 48v 2000 - Dead or dying or still alive?

Acquired a 2000 Club Car 48v and it ran fine.
Got it home and did some cosmetic work.
Had to leave it outside in steady rain for three days and went to run it and nothing.
Batteries are fine - 51.5v - lights are bright, rear buzzer sounds, but no movement.
I checked the next day and saw that the yellow wire from the controller at the solenoid end was blackened and the resistor at the same connection was cooked and just broke away.
I disconnected the negative cable on battery #6.
I cleaned the connection and reattached the resistor and yellow wire.
As I put the cable back on to the post at Battery #6, it gave a bang and flash on the battery connection.
Obviously this was not good, but I tightened it down anyway and knowing that it wouldn't run, put the key in and surprisingly it did run.
I decide to take it around the block, only for it to die after 100yds.
Pushed it back home.
Question is, what damage would you think was done ( the flash and bang on the battery post was a hundred times greater than the usual sparkle of making an electrical connection) and what should I do next?
Would replacing the cables and the solenoid work or are the battery and controller compromised now as well?
Thanks for any suggestions and I have a photo if needed.

I hope so too, but I don't see what I did wrong that would have done that.
I only removed the wires from a single terminal on the solenoid, cleaned and replaced.
The cart did run afterwards, albeit not very far.

Just the one response to the original question, but for the benefit of anyone that finds this thread later, here's an update.

Replaced the solenoid. Guessed that it stuck open and that's why the heat at the negative terminal. Also would explain the discharge on the negative post of #6 battery.

Hooked everything back up and charger worked.
After charging, put it into forward and nothing.
Lights worked, indicators etc. but no movement.

Next day put it into reverse then into forward and touched the pedal and it took off.
Has been running perfectly ever since.
