Harley comet tapered shaft clutch

Shown here are pics of a Harley comet tapered shaft clutch used on 82 and up Harleys and columbias

I think 82 and 83 each had their own clutch. They were comets but unique each year. I think they looked similar but the weight arrangement was different.

I believe you are correct,ine seen a cover used on vintage cart parts site that said fits"1982" only. I'm wonde what other clutches share the same shaft size and taper. Also, I understand that the sleeve specific to the engine shaft but universal to the clutch series, can be swapped. Of course we know differences then I. Spring rate and weighs and engagement tons ect. I'm really curious what the taper and depth of the clutch is. To up grade to newer style .what does ez go use. ECT. Im finding that the best info is you fine folks, right here

If you can set the clutch on a table, mash down on the top and wedge a board in there so the weights are exposed and take a pic. Be careful though you dont want the weights rotating or falling out. There should be a bump in the weights that will show the correct orientation. The manual isn't real clear about the orientation of weights for correct installation and I've wondered if I installed mine correctly or not.
