Re: aftermarket or custom flywheel shroud deflector
In kart racing we cover the flywheels shroud opening in order to create more heat and some rpm's. So restricting air flow with a cover or mud could do the same thing.

Re: aftermarket or custom flywheel shroud deflector
I have seen carts come in with HD window screen over the fan to keep most of it out.

Re: aftermarket or custom flywheel shroud deflector
That's what I did on my '88 to keep leaves and debris out as it kept plugging up the fins on the cylinder (the screen trick). I picked up some heavy screening at Home Depot, unscrewed the fan cover and cut the screen using the cover as a template, wired it in place then screwed the cover back on, sandwiching the screen between the cover and the engine casing. If it gets fouled up now, I only have to pull a few screws instead of the entire engine casing

Re: aftermarket or custom flywheel shroud deflector
I thought about the window screen but that would clog up even quicker. Was thinking about building something that was very open at the top but not the bottom or sides. this way the air could still come in but the mud would not sling off the tires onto the flywheel fins. I'll have to see what I can come up with.
