Default any way to get off a starter generator Cover 97 ds

I think the bearing is froze in the housing because pulled everything down but the cover wont come off the side of the brushes I was thinking of heating the cover with a torch for a few seconds to maybe break it loose any suggestions

I just replaced the brushes on my personal cart but I also wanted to clean the commutator while I was at it. Blessed brush holder was a bear to get off. I had to pry away and tap (gently) with a rubber mallet for over 15 minutes before it came apart. Eventually it gave up the struggle and I found some very light surface rust on the bearing outer race. Cleaned up easily and all is good with world again. Be patient and you'll get it apart

yea I have a bearing that is noisy so I was going to clean everything up while I was in there did you just pull the brushes slightly when you pulled the comutator cover the manual said to do that I guess to not do any damage to them while you get it off

It's a tricky operation to hold all four brushes away from the commutator simultaneously, I just removed them. There will be a wear ridge similar to that on a brake rotor, If you leave the brushes in place you will risk damaging them when they pull past this ridge imo.

well decided to take it to my local alternator/starter place, they put new bearings in checked the armature and had it ready to pick up in an hour and a half for $69 the bearings they put in were pricey $12 a pop but it is super quiet now and I didn't even have to touch the thing

he also said that it was a bear to get off it looked like the bearing had got hot and seized in the cover and that was why it would not release
