Default Some batteries read negative voltage

6 passanger Club Car, 6-8 volt batteries. Has sat for who knows how long. 7 volts in pack. 3 batteries read negative voltage. Is it safe to try to "force" charge or better question...will the "negative" reading batteries "explode"

You can try this but it's really a last resort...put an old headlight on the batteries that show the reverse voltage and run them down to zero volts...then with a battery charger hooked up to the proper terminals then charge them back up and they should charge correctly...be aware that most chargers have a low voltage safety built in them and you may have to "jump" the charger with a higher charged battery of the same voltage to get the charger to kick in. The real bottom line is the batteries are shot and you need to replace them all as a matched set in order to be happy with the performance of the battery pack...good luck.

Batteries have already suffered irreversible damage - why risk it?

Thanks guy's. We "force charge" batteries on Yami's all the time, because the owners didn't keep the chargers plugged in. I'm not about to put myself or my mechanic's in harmes way to try to save em. Just wanted to get some feedback from more knowledable amigo's. Thanks again.

Risk was perhaps the wrong word? I'm just saying I've never seen a battery come back from 0v to lead a normal productive life

It can't hurt to try to charge them. They are not going to come back to where they were but they may come back.
