Default where to attach wires to measure load

I purchased a digital meter that is supposed to measure amperage draw. I'm not sure where to connect the wires on the cart. Should I connect to lugs on the motor, or to the solenoid or to the F/R switch?

Thanks

Just did this. You mount the shunt in the NEGATIVE battery cable between the controller and the batts. What kind of meter do you have?

IT is a PZEM-051. Rated at 100A max. I just found this diagram on the web that confirms your recommendation.

The shunt that comes with it is 100A/75mV. I suppose I need a larger shunt? I understand that a 500A shunt will work, but AMP readings will be 20% of actual?

How many amps are you reading?

I have a clamp meter. Makes it a lot better.

I use a D.C. Clamp meter also...make sure if you buy one it's for direct current not A.C. Current...😎

Yes you need a 500 amp shunt. Not sure if your meter will read properly. Best to contact he company on this. Have seen 400 amps on takeoff but only briefly. At speed I see from 125 [uphill] to 65-70 on the flat. I have a clampmeter too and used it to verify my onboard one. So far it has been a great tool for "tuneing" [tire pressure, driving style, temperature changes ect.] My meter also does the pack voltage.

What terminal are you pulling positive load from?

Thanks for the input. I will install a 400A/75mv Shunt and just do the math in my head . . .

Another option that has a little less resolution but much easier to read is to set your meter to 50A/75mV and get a 500A/75mV shunt.

You then just have to read x10.
