The glass testers may still light up even if the spark is too weak to make the engine run.
This is true. Recently worked on the same model cart that showed spark in the tester but no spark on plug.

Does appear that you do have a fuel problem tho. Leaning out and starving for fuel.

Exactly why I dont use or trust the inline spark testers. They're not reliable. Hooking a timing light up is better, if spark is too weak most timing lights wont pick it up through the inductive clamp.

Best test for spark is to pull the plug or carry a spare plug. When it quits.running, plug in the spare, ground the threads to something metal and watch. Your eyes dont lie

This weekend I'm going to clean out the carb. Check all the vent lines. And take a spare plug and my timing light , to make sure I have "real" spark. All I had last weekend was a cheap inline spark checker. This weekend I'll have better tools.

Even though everything showed that I had spark...it was not strong enough to keep the engine running. Replaced the coil igniter assy. Cart has not shut down since.

no picture but earlier models up 1996 had a 2 pc ignition system ., a coil and an igniter.
But in 1997 the igniter became part of the coil..so a 1997 and newer has a 1 pc ignition system.

I'll be tearing a FE290 apart in the near future to salvage any good parts off of it. Maybe I'll take pictures of the teardown and create a "how to" post so folks can have an idea of locations and accessibility. You have to pull the motor out to get to the coil, it's not a fun job. Not particularly difficult but not really fun either.

You can get that coil replaced without pulling the engine. Helps with a lift but it can be done. I did one last year on one just like this.

How did you get to the 2 bottom bolts on the fan shroud?

You dont have to completely remove the engine from the cart, but I've always had to at least get it unbolted so you can tilt it a little bit to get at those 2 bottom bolts.

I guess you could cut the lip on the engine cradle off, but I dont see any other way. It's a pretty tight fit
