Default Precedent Dash Repair

Friend has a 2008 Precedent that the ignition switch tabs are damaged, so it won't hold a switch. Other than the obvious - a new dash - is there a repair option for that area? His dash is a black plastic, abs, whatever - with the radio and speakers included. It would be nice if someone offered a bond in repair ring to fix the issue. Thanks, Willie.

less than $70 for a replacement. however never under estimate the power of JB Weld, should last a few hundred times before failing again

Everything I have been finding for the ones with the DIN radio opening and speaker holes have been $150+. For some reason they all seem to be "carbon fiber".

I would just hot glue it from the back side. Rough up the back side of the dash a little with some 60 grit, same with the ignition switch. It will probably never break loose again. Hot glue is awesome for repairs like that, and incredibly strong. Just glob it on, you cant use too much.

Benefit to hot glue over jb weld is if the ignition switch itself should ever fail and need replacement, hot glue is a lot easier to remove and undo than jb weld or epoxy.

I have seen as what appears to be hot melt or silicone in electronic as insulator on connections. I believe that Hot Melt would do better than Super Glue for most applications.
Thanks for the suggestion, never thought of this before.

Hot glue, not super glue.

Not exactly familiar with this part, but you could try JB Weld.

JB Weld makes a two part epoxy putty, made for plastic, that works extremely well. It gets hard as a rock and bonds very well when sanded and prepped right.

I've used it for a number of different projects. It is sandable and I have even drilled and tapped it (although this was for something more for looks). And also painted it with no problems.

If the tab is missing, you could use this, build it where it overlaps on the back side and rough it in. Then, once fully cured, sand it to the proper shape and size you need, and paint it if showing.

That stuff actually also works very well for filling scratches in plastic golf cart bodies before you paint them. It works a lot better than spot putty because it bonds better and doesnt crack like the bondo can if the body flexes. You do need to wait 24 hours before sanding it flush, and its obviously a lot harder to sand than bondo but works much better in the end

I used to own my own business doing Automotive Interior Repair. Did this type of work for just about 18 years. Mostly leather and vinyl repair, but I very never turned down trying to fix just about anything. I love a challenge.
I've used this stuff to repair broken armrests on door panels, center consoles, and several other things.

I've even used ABS glue, the type you use on plumbing, to glue ABS that was completely broken apart. Then use something like this JB Weld putty to help provide a little more rigidity to the repair.

Some people think inside the box.
Some people think outside the box.
I didn't even know that there was a box!
