48v RXV In-line Fuse for Accessories?
I have a 48v RXV (4 x12v). I bought the cart used and the LED head/rear lights was wired to one 12v battery. It has an inline fuse.
I added a LED underbody kit and a horn Both did not come with an in-line fuse. I also added a 48v to 12v converter and wired the head/rear, LED underbody and horn to the converter so that it draws from all batteries rather than the one. Do I need to add an in-line fuse to the accessories (LED Underbody and Horn kit)? Thanks. |

Re: 48v RXV In-line Fuse for Accessories?
At a minimum I would make sure you have one before the converter.
You could fuse each 12v circuit separately, but If you tapped the headlight wire after the fuse to supply the horn and leds, that fuse will protect all three circuits (as long as it can handle the total current). |

Re: 48v RXV In-line Fuse for Accessories?
Every "small circuit" should have a fuse appropriate for its wire size. The fuse isnt there to protect the "lights" or whatever, its there to protect the wire from catching fire if the circuit fails to "dead short".
The fuse should be sized for the smallest wire in the circuit. Including the tiny wire at the led. |

Re: 48v RXV In-line Fuse for Accessories?
Thank you both.
I removed the head/rear lights from the battery. I then wired the converter to the battery and then wired a pigtail of female connectors to the output lines of the converter I crimped male connectors to the accessories and connected it to the converter. I think what I will do is add an in-line fuse for each accessory since I can easily disconnect it. |
