Default Electrical Problems!!

Ive been workin on a 1990 EZGO Golf cart for the past 2 weeks. It caught on fire and burned alot of the wires. I Rewired all the wires that needed it. I put a new switch in the pedal and a new starter solenoid. And it ran awsome. I took it for a ride around town and i stopped at a friends and it would not go again, it would do nothing no clicks or anything. And everything under the seat was so hot. So i towed it home. worked on it for a while. I put the old starter solenoid in it. you push the gas and it will go but then it will keep running when my foot aint even on the pedal. and when i turn the key off it continues to run. i have to turn the foward reverse switch to the middle and it shuts right off. Could it be I need to get another new starter solenoid? I put the new one back on and just touched the wires for the switch and it just lightly sparks like its weak. And it clicks same as the other one mabye more.
Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks, MIke

One of the things you describe sounds like a classic stuck solenoid
The new one could have burnt up, did you use an auto type solenoid, cause they aren't made to handle continuous use.
