Default 1983 lower end

Hey all, i am just starting a restore project 1983 ez-go with the robin engine, took the top end apart and it is definitly bad. any suggestion on testing bottom end ? the piston rod does not have any horizontal play on the bearing, but it does move side to side is that normal ? thanks

Yep completely normal from my experience. As far as what to check, look at the crank seals. Some say fill the crank case with gas and see if it leaks around the crank seals. If it does, they need replaced. Make sure there's no metal flakes in the case or cracks in the rod, and that the cranks bearings are smooth operating.
