EMP motors
Hello eveyrone, newbie here. I've been looking at upgrades for the last 2 weeks for my 97 ez-go series cart. I've seen a lot on info on D&D motor setups. A controller/motor setup is gonna run $1100, thats improved tourque and hi speed of about 18 mph.
Well all of a sudden I hear about this EMP 2 speed set-up. They post that all u have to change is the motor/switch. Motor alone, will give u both improved tourque and hi speed of about 20mph. And all for $350! Does this sound right? Just by looking at it, it's a no brainer, but yet I don't see much about people having them. I have not seen much on the forums I've been looking at, no articles on anything on the net. Even around here, all I hear about is D&D. Am I missing somehting? If it works like they say and its only $350, why isn't everyone talking about them? Thanks Great forum |

Re: EMP motors
Welcome to the forum!
Most of that is true but there's more to it than just getting the motor. For $350, you have to send them your motor to rewind or pay a $100 core charge. The EMP 2 speed will likely require an upgraded controller to take advantage of the added power. That cost is in the neighborhood of $500. With the 2 speed you need to have the abilty to change it from low to high speed and that requires an additional FNR switch that you can also buy from EMP for an additional $100. IMO the total cost of a 2 speed EMP with controller would be about $1000 plus any new 4ga cabling you would need to upgrade. I consider D&D, PQ and EMP to be similar products and no one has the magic cheap solution. Unfortunately something that sounds unbelievable usually is. |

Re: EMP motors
I didn't spend anywhere near $1000 on my 2 speed. I got the 2 speed motor and switch for less than $300, including shipping. THis was a few years ago so I'm sure prices have changed a little. You DO NOT have to have an upgraded controller. They can build to work with a stock controller. You just have to call them and tell them what you want and what you plan on doing. Once you WANT so much you have to start upgrading other stuff like controllers and F/R switches. Just a regular 2 speed you can use the stock components....of coarse upgrading the rest you will get more power and torque.

Re: EMP motors
Your right about using the stock controller and you know it's limitations.
Everyone seems to want to take a 12mph cart and turn it into a 25mph screamer with a rear seat and a lift, for that you will need a controller. I just received a quote a month ago from EMP for the 2 speed with switch and it was in the $550 range. |

I was also impressed that she said I should get 20-21 mph in hi-speed modeAnd from what I understand, it's a shift on the fly! |

Re: EMP motors
I got the 2 speed set-up about 2 months ago and am more than happy with it. I had some extra work done on it and it ran $425 including shipping, and there was no core charge. I highly recomend it.

How much did it increase your top speed? Is there enough tourque for when 4 people are in the cart? Also I was told that even if you leave it in high speed mode, it still has more tourque than with the stock motor? Any thoughts. I GREATLY appreciate it. I tried to PM you, but didn't see that option |
