vertical shaft conversion?
( hate to have a motor doing nothing) I have been given a twin cylinder 17 horse briggs engine. Its a vertical shaft motor. I was wondering if anybody has made a cart from one of these motors. I have a 90 degree gearbox from a Honda atv and some snomobile primary and secondary clutches. I would think that a sprocket and chain to the gearbox then to the primary clutch should get me moving. Any help or ideas? Love you guys and this site!.

Re: vertical shaft conversion?
I can see this being a problem. May have to have the engine mounted higher than normal. Now that presents top heavy problems maybe. I am thinking of either the twisted belt idea or the right angle drive. I will keep you posted. I am looking for a frame now. If anybody knows a place to get a junk or the skeletal remains of a cart let me know. Thanks again love you guys!

Re: vertical shaft conversion?
I read someplace about a kid who took a verticule engine apart and put the dippers for a horizontal engine on the rod so it would lube on it's side, Now if it has a oil pump then you would need to figure a way to move your oil pickup to mount it on it's side. This was also a single cylinder engine.Anything can be done, ask a seabee.Somethings just take alittle longer.

Re: vertical shaft conversion?
Mount it on a lawn mower. From there you can put 4 wheels and a steering wheel.

Re: vertical shaft conversion?
With a lift you should be able to go with the right angle gearbox idea. Heck, they run Boss hog motorcycles off them!
