Default '84 G1 Clutch

These are pictures of the clutch off my '84 G1. Does anyone know how I can tighten it up so I have more low end power? It engages as soon as it turns over.

I guess this is a G1-AM5 Primary Sheave '85-'86. There is no spring so I can't get the power spring kit.

Does anyone know what adjustments can be done to this clutch? Is it possible that it's just worn out and needs a re-build? I would appreciate any help. I'm not a clutch guy.

That is the G9 style clutch not the original G1 clutch, though I don't remember if they put those on late G1 factory or not. Sorry there is not much you can do, but other things you can do. A new belt is the first thing you want, then you can take out the secondary spring and put in a vice and make it longer. Check the motor mounts make sure the engine can't torque to the trans under load. Clean and lube them, that should help some.

I was going to figure out how to add a spring to that clutch but never got to it in order to figure out if its possible. I ground the secondary ramps down on my G9 and got enough power to pull a boat out of a lake. Mine will take off harder if I hold the brake for a few seconds with it on the floor.

You can buy a spring for the secondary, but make sure you know what you are getting before you do. Not sure you can get a cut secondary sheave for those but they help G9s you get a lower first gear more or less, or you can machine that one.

Nothing you can do to the primary, grab the weights and see if there loose, if so replace all 3 weights at the same time. If you want more "bottom end/torque" get a torque spring from a site sponsor (not Buggies Unlimited!!), you will lose some top end though.

I found a spring I thought might work, was going to try to make a washer to go on top and spring against the cover. It was fairly weak spring, not sure you need much to make it work. When it all works right all stock, it will rev up with a load on it but not normally.
