Dang, I always do that!!! If the shocks are not leaking oil, then more than likely, they are OK. Usually the springs are fatigued. And you are now using the car in a heavy duty manor, so you need to increase the capacity.

Re: G16 with Honda BB, Shocks???
I wish!!
What's the car doing? Bottoming out? And in your pictures, looks like the front shocks are in the inside hole on the A arms, and should be on the second one from the out side. Do you get a lot of squat from the front as well? You could get a lot better control with the shocks mounted in the second hole. Might want to look into what I did on my front shocks. Have a good one Mike |

Re: G16 with Honda BB, Shocks???
Its not bottoming out, its just squishy. I put the shock on the inside hole due to putting 3" wheel spacers on it. Seem to be the best setting for the tires to sit right. Make sense? What did u do on your front shocks?

Re: G16 with Honda BB, Shocks???
I have after market shocks on the rear, don't know what they are. But the springs are quite abit stiffer than stock. And I put shaft collars on the front shocks. Together the combination works well for me. It can corner pretty hard with no body roll. And its carried 8 people (5 of them kids) for over a mile with no ill effects.

Re: G16 with Honda BB, Shocks???
Otto, measure diameter of the front shock body, mine were 1 1/4". I went to a bearing/belt and chain supply. They were $4.00 a piece. But they are 1/2" high, so you have to have a tall enough spring, so as not to have coil bind when you install them.
Coil bind is, will the spring still have enough compression (2 or more inches, which is the travel of the shock) before the coils are compressed together. See all the space between the coils on mine in the picture? You need to measure distance between the spring coils to make sure you have enough spring compression. "Split shaft collars". I think Grainger has them also. I put them on myself, but go to a motor cycle shop to have them installed. Much safer!!! Might have them install the rear springs as well! Unless your feeling Wily!! |
