How do I get "under the hood" with a 1984 G1?
Just acquired a Yamaha 1984 G1 that has been idle for at least a year. I found the manual for it online, but it has a top and I can't figure out how to get under the hood to recharge the battery, etc.

Re: How do I get "under the hood" with a 1984 G1?
Thanks for the info, Todd. Things are easy if you know what to do aren't they?
This machine hasn't been started for at least a year. So aside from charging the battery, any suggestions how to make it happen? I have starter fluid but I don't know where to squirt it. I suspect the carburetor is empty, yes? Should I remove the spark plug and pour a little gas down there? I know this is a 2 cycle engine, so maybe not? Thanks, Spence |

Back up a step Spencex, That cylinder has been dry for a year,
Charge the battery, remove the plug and squirt some oil in the cylinder, rotate by hand a few times. Change the fuel and remove the fuel line from the carb, stick the end in a bottle and spin it over. If it squirts out replace it and you might get lucky and it will start. If you want to start off right, clean the whole fuel system, tank to carb, Clean cooling fins and give it a general tune up. I would mix the gas until you are sure the oiler is working. I know I sound like my Dad but do it right the first time and you will spend more time riding. |
