PDS lost power after climbing ditch bank
Hey guys, I just picked up a lifted '07 EZ-GO PDS and took it out back in the woods for a little adventure. After conquering a steep ditch bank (which took some effort) the cart lost power. I then turned off the switch and gave it a minute and it came back on just fine .. then a minute later I lost power again.. again the same thing.. I turned the key off and back on a minute later and I limped it back home to charge... It wasn't like I was playing with it all day, I had it on the charger all night and had it out for maybe only 30mins or so. Could there be a problem with the PDS controller? Is it not designed for all that? Anyways, since then I have had no problem but I haven't tried anything like that again either.

Re: PDS lost power after climbing ditch bank
Welcome to BGW
It sounds like the controller went in to thermal shut down, a stock PDS controller does not like a lift and big tires, it will only shut down like that a few times and then, it will shut down for good, and you will need a new one, any up grades on this cart |

Re: PDS lost power after climbing ditch bank
Right now I just have the jake's lift kit and 22" tires. I was debating about putting the Alltrax 600 amp PDS programmable controller on the cart but didn't want to spend the money. I guess now I have a good reason. Since that controller is a PDS would it give me the same problem? Any reccomendations on controllers?

Oh and if I were to install that controller would I need to do any other upgrades?

Re: PDS lost power after climbing ditch bank
If you are going to up grade your motor now or in the future, then the 600 amp would be a good up grade, but if your not planning on up grading the motor it's just over kill, and with what ever controller you go with, you need to up grade all your cable to 4 ga or 2 ga, and a new solenoid, you can find some good up grade packages, from our sponsors, here http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html

Re: PDS lost power after climbing ditch bank
The general rule of thumb is do not put anything bigger than a 400 amp controller on a stock motor. If you have plans for an aftermarket motor later on, you can get a 5 or 600 amp control now and turn it down to 400 amps for the stock motor and then turn it up when you get a nice big torque motor.
When you upgrade the controller you will need to upgrade the solenoid and 8 cables for 400a and 10 cables for 500 and up. |

Re: PDS lost power after climbing ditch bank
what amperage is the stock controller? And would the 400amp controller package ( #808 ) with the stock motor work for some mild off roading?

Do take this as any offense. Well...... To answer your question yes, MILD offroading is plausible, but from looking at your posts you would much more benefit from a series cart.

Re: PDS lost power after climbing ditch bank
The 400a Alltrax control and HD 200a solenoid is all most people need for mild off roading.
