2007 ez go electric. Should I buy it?

Hello forum. 1st post! I have just sold the only cart I ever owned, an 86 Marathon gas. It never let me down once. Anyway I have been looking at an '07 ez go electric at a local dealer. I want electric. This cart has a roof but no windshield. Also they tested the discharge on the batterys and they claim 56 minutes. I will only be using this cart around a small property as I walk with a cane so just around home. I don't know anything about the electric other than the fact I want one for the quiet aspect. I would welcome all comments. I have read pages and pages on the carts, just need a nudge to go and get it. They are asking 1475.00. I have test drove it and it is tight. Thanks.

Sounds like a pretty good price for a 2007, however 56 minutes sounds iffy.
Hopefully someone more familiar with actual discharge times will chime in.

If the Direction selector (F/R switch) is on the dash by the keyswitch, it has a PDS drive system, which uses a shunt wound motor
If the F/R control is by your right knee, it has a series wound motor.

Series cart are better for creeping around and off-road, while PDS carts like to cruise at higher speeds.
However, I use my PDS around my property at low speeds without any issues.

Thanks for the replies! It has the F/R up on the dash by the key. I am not sure if I can post a picture or not.

I should also add that it has quite a few small scratches that I think will wax out. It is really clean and dry underneath. They are great to deal with, I had my gas cart for 15 years and bought my parts from them. It's the end of the golf season and they are dropping in price a bit so they don't have to store them. Is there anything in particular I should look for? I will try and see if I can tell the year of the batteries on the posts. thanks.

Nice looking cart.

Even if the batteries aren't too good, it is a good deal.

The important thing is to keep the batteries fully charge as much as possible, and keep the clean and watered.

Is the dealer supplying a charger with it?
If so, what the make and model, I have info on most, or at least many.
I use a 36V DPI with float charge and basically it is plugged into my cart when I not driving it.

Added: If the cart does already have a "Freedom Chip", get one. You can get about 18MPH with it installed.

Yes there is a charger included. I don't know what make or model charger though. I would bet it doesn't have the freedom chip as it just came off a golf course. I would be interested in getting one for it. I did read about the batteries on the link you provided. Great info ! Thanks Johnnieb, may try to get over to the dealer on saturday.

You can pick up a Freedom chip on E-bay for under $10 and by added a couple switches in the jumper wire, you can get all four PDS Modes.

I only used one switch since I only use Freedom and Mild Hill modes.

Looked on ebay and saw a gizmo that claims to be able to shift on the fly? Sounds good , but is it possible? 46 bucks for the switch and wire. thanks.

sprocket, I am prety sure the "shift on the fly" requires the newer version of the PDS controller which I don't think came out until 2008 or so. If you are good with wires and have a freedom chip you can get creative with it. As for the price, you didn't say where you are but around here, $1475 isn't a great price but not bad especially if there is a good dealer related to it. I often pay more for something because of the service that will follow.
