J stands for Jack. A Jack is what a Plug plugs into.
The number after the J identifies which Jack it is.
The drawing of the controller at the top of the schematic I posted shows the physical locations of the Jacks.
The Pin number identifies which position the connection is in.
The physical pin layout within each jack is drawn on the schematic.

If the test lead tips are too thick to insert into the backside of the plugs, use a short piece of 20Ga or thinner solid copper wire with about 1/4" of the insulation stripped off. Then strip off an inch or so of the insulation at the other end and wrap around the test probe tip.
