If the motor is parallel with the axle and the motor points to the passenger side as viewed from behind the cart then:

1. It is different from any '83 factory model I've seen as they were perpendicular to the axle and pointed forward between two battery banks.

2. It is different from any approx '86 and newer which is parallel to the axle but the motor points to the driver side as viewed from behind the cart.

This is based on a Marathon GX440/444 model.

what you have.....

So I actually have a different year model rear end compared to the cart itself the plate on the frame says its a 1983. The rear end is in backwards. So I need to take it out and flip it around cause the motor is susposed to go on it from the drivers side

Really guys. Does it matter? This sounds like an FNR problem.

Sounds like you have a later model axle (albeit backwards) in an '83 cart. Not all that uncommon (not the backwards part) as spring perches likely matched up even after the axle change in 85-86 or so. At least not until the Medalist/TXT models beginning '94.5.

Interesting to say the least. Assuming a resistor coil controlled setup? Or have modifications been done to drive system as well? On an '83, the resistor coils would have been behind, lower, and to left of driver's butt when sitting in the cart. Which may be why someone changed the orentiation of the newer axle since the motor would interfere with the stock resistor coil setup in the factory location.

Just guessing......

I think it is best practice to know as much about what someone is dealing with before making any speculative guesses or giving advice.

That's just me tho'.

Well, that along with: ...I am just plain curious....

Good luck all.

If the axle is flipped is it possible the power problem is from 1/2 speed reverse? But my other question would be are the brakes hooked up? If the axle is flipped then I don't see how the brake cables were connected correctly unless the brakes were taken off an installed on the wrong sides.

The brakes are hooked up but when I got it they went adjusted and it would barely stop not sure how the cables need to be routed but they are hanging down below the rear axle

The cart also still has the resistor coils in it. When its being used the coils do get very hot don't know if that should happen or if I need to change something to work better with this setup
