Default Burning smell

I haven't been on here in awhile, but I'm still loving my ride. Just can't wait for some warming weather to set in so I can start up with my evening rides around the neighborhood!

Anyways, my wife and I were out on a ride this past weekend and we kept smelling a burning plastic smell. I came to the conclusion that it was the forward/reverse switch? It looked like the negative wire that is connected to it was starting to melt? Is this a common occurence? Does it mean that something else is going out or does it just possibly need replacing? Please give me ANY advice because when it comes to electrical issues I might as well be trying to learn a foriegn language.....

Thanks in advance--Matthew

The lift was installed before I even got it. I have since (3 years ago) installed the bigger gauge wires and I've put a 2-speed motor on it. Other than that I haven't done anything to it!

Sounds like it is time for a HD f/R switch assembly. http://www.cartsunlimited.net/F_R_Switch_Upgrades.html

JohnnieB has stated in other post....and you may want to check your cart for this....Look at where your cables run from your F\R switch to your motor. Where your cables "swing around" the battery holder.....make sure that your cables have not gotten "rubbed" thru on the edge of the battery holder and are now shorting out.

If your cable ties have broken or perhaps were not installed properly, it could take some time, but your cables could eventually wear thru and now be shorting out. This is an easy "look and see" to determine if this is the problem.

I like to start with the simple stuff. That usually means looking at the stuff I did. (But first.....I put on my foil helmet 'cause I like to look like my hero....J.B.!!!) Plus the foil helmet really keeps those voices away. Really. Honest.
