Default Charging

Got a 1996 36V cart. Sometimes when I try and charge it, it will charge and other times it will not. You pull up or down on the cord (were it plugs into the cart) the charger will kick on. Thinking about buying a new end along with the part that is on the cart were it plugs into. What you think?

What's the charge status of the batteries? The pack has to be at a certain point before the original charger will kick on. I believe the pack voltage cut off is something like 32.5 volts. I know someone has the correct number and will post it up. Anything less than the cutoff and you will have to charge the batteries individually to bring up the total.

you can buy just the copper terminals seperatly. I have replaced hundreds of them. the terminals are expensive, but they are cheaper than the cable handle assy and cart receptical.

I am not sure of the charging status. But the batteries are new and only charge the cart when it will barely move or is dead.

Replace the receptacle contacts. They are called radsoks. 99% of the time that is all that is needed.

My cart used to do that occasionally. Go to an auto parts store and get a can of electric parts cleaner. Spray the charger plug and the cart sockets. I did that to my cart about a year ago and it hasn't happened since.

This procedure will ruin your new batteries in short order. Golf cart batteries should never be taken below 50% state of charge. Visit Scottyb's website (WWW.cartsunlimited.net) and read every article with the word battery in it.

Like the G-man alluded to, your new batteries are destined for an early grave if you continue to discharge them unit they will barely move the cart.

For maximum battery lifespan, recharge after each use.

Thanks for the tip on the batteries. I got the cart for my kids to use at a campground that we stay at, when they bring it back it is usually about dead. As far as the receptacle contacts, were can I pick them up at. I see the ones for the cord but not the cart plug? I found a new plug with all new receptacle contacts and new plug with new contacts that go to cart for $100. Is that a good deal, or still cheaper to buy recep. cont?

Unless the plug or receptacle housings are damaged, you just need the male and female terminals.

Do an on-line search for:
73051G05 (The Female terminal in the Receptacle)
73051G14 (The Male terminal in the Plug)
You will need 2 of each, but it will total less than $100.
