Default Steering Wheel Comes Loose

On my 2007 EZGO RXV the steering wheel will pop off the steering column if I pull up on it. When this happens... the cart cannot steer (which is a problem if the cart is moving)!. I am hoping this is a simple fix. Have you come across this situation before? I'd appreciate any help.

should be a very large nut holding the wheel to the steering shaft ! two screws hold the score card holder on and behind that there should be a lock washer and a nut.....start there

So it is the nut behind the wheel.

it actually is behind the scorecard holder. remove scorecard holder and the nut will be exposed.

Thanks -- I'll take a look and see if I can tighten the bolt. This issue was first realized when I was letting my 5 year old son drive (while sitting on my lap). When he pulled up on the wheel trying to balance himself it popped off and we were lucky to stay on the road!

It turned out that the threads on the bolt located under the scorecard holder are out of alignment... thus the nut can't be screwed down any further.

Since it seems like it would be difficult to get the threads in workable order... I am planning to cut a ~1" tube of 1/2" pvc pipe and use that as a spacer. I think this will keep the steering wheel from pulling up.

PVC?
Maybe it's a non issue because I can't visualize what's wrong with the nut/threds - but I would recommend a few washers, not PVC.

Is there supposed to be a bushing of some sort underneath the nut? I have ~1 - 1.5" space that would need to be screwed down. I'd love to see a picture of someone's cart with the scorecard holder removed -- hoping to see if the nut that I have is OEM or something that was once a "quick fix".
