Default Loses power up hill

It's an 80 marathon 2 stroke. It moves at top end speed but as soon as you hit an incline it starts to slow down. will make it up the hill but struggle and go real slow. I have read on here that this maybe an effect of the clutch sticking? Is it the drive clutch or the driven clutch that would effect this? The plug looks good. muffler has been bbq'd. It had a backfire issue so I don't know there might be a micro tear in the diaphragm of the fuel pump. If there is an order in wich I should troubleshoot this I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks
Chris
