Is this normal?? Drive belt question.
I just replaced my worn drive belt on my 96 TXT ith the 1 inch shorter belt from an 89 that was recommended (22337 G1) Now it creeps forward on the starter before the engine starts. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Does a new cart do this?

Its normal to have some movement but not alot. The belt does not have enough slack on the clutches to spin freely. Im not sure you would gain much with a smaller belt

http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/searc...archid=2767878 The shorter belt delivers more of the engines power to the rear end. Less flex in the belt over the same distance equals less slipping and stretching of the belt so more power to the ground. If that makes sense... |

Re: Is this normal?? Drive belt question.
If the belt is new, there is a short break in period. they can squeal, and smell for a little while, ideal is to barely step on gas pedal, engine starts and idles with little, or no drag, let the belt break in, then see how it does,, as you said, it is 1 inch shorter than original, that's not good, if it still drags a lot, I would send it back and get the correct belt. myself, I don't idle a lot. but its not good on the drive train and engine if you constantly put drag on them, good luck;;

Re: Is this normal?? Drive belt question.
I tried the shorter belt on my 2-stroke Marathon and wasn't impressed.I shimmed the Primary-Clutch spring 3/16" and it worked great.My current setup uses a Ez-Go 4-stroke primary-clutch and I have the higher-rpm engagement spring in it(about 200rpm higher than stock).It was a nite/day difference on both of these setups.Hope this helps.

Re: Is this normal?? Drive belt question.
OK I'll give it some time and see if it breaks in if not I'll get a new stock one. I use it to pull a trailer around sometimes picking up yard debris and was looking for some more low end torque. Now it'll pull the cart and the full trailer on the starter before the engine starts. Kind of concerned.
