Swaping motors on 2000 ez go
Hello to all my golf cart buddies...Been a while since I posted..
I have a 2000 36 volt ezgo that's motor and rear are trashed.( motor spline, input shaft and motor is cracked.) I also have a 1998 36 volt ezgo that I want to swap out everything...motor, rear, axles..etc.....Both motors are AU2400. The only problem that I see is the motor on the 98 has a motor speed sensor and the motor on the 2000 that Im putting everything in does not have a speed sensor.... Will that work... What do I do with that wire.. Do I need to add something to the 2000 to make it work. Thanks Bill |

See what both motors are. If one is a series and one is a sepex, they aren't compatible. If both are sepex, someone else can answer that, but I'm thinking it won't work. |

Re: Swaping motors on 2000 ez go
Quick response...Thanks
Both motors are the same other than the one I want to put into the 2000 has a speed sensor.. 1998 motor is a Electric vehicle power system, Inc AU2500 ....Part number A95-4005A The 2000 motor is also a electric vehicle power system AU2500...Its hard to read the rest of the tag but do see on the Part number the last part is 4005A... So they look the exact same except the 98 has a speed sensor and the 2000 that I want to put that motor in does not have one Thanks |

I don't know about part numbers. I've only had one electric buggy. Did you check the link and determine whether each one is series, DCS, or PDS, based on the buggies? The one with the speed sensor is not a series. The one without is an unknown.

Re: Swaping motors on 2000 ez go
The A95-4005A crosses to a series motor, but having a speed sensor indicates it is a sepex motor. Or at least I've never heard of a series golf cart motor with a speed sensor.
The AU2500 is a speed rating of some kind for motors used in people movers, or something along those lines. Pictures of motors showing labels and end caps as well as pictures of controllers would help. |

Re: Swaping motors on 2000 ez go
Thanks guys and Hey JonnieB...Didn't know if you were still here....
OK here is what I got ..1998 36 volt Ezgo Textron (freedom) Serial # L198 1131726.....F/R handle under legs.....NO tow/run switch....motor has 2 larger post and 2 smaller post... 2000 36 volt ezgo Textron....serial L-400 1332549...It has a tow/run switch....F/R is switch on dash board ....has a 10 connector on controllor Like I said before one of the carts the motor label is messed up, but no doubt in my military mind they are the same other than the size of the two post and one has a speed sensor at the end of the motor... So my buddies...can I make this work without adding a lot of expensive stuff... JonnieB....my wife has only phone with camera and shes not here Thanks guys |

Re: Swaping motors on 2000 ez go
The serial number on the 2000 says it left the factory as a PDS, but a ten pin plug says it is a DCS controller.
The serial number on the 1998 didn't come back with any info from the EZGO website, but two larger posts and two smaller on the motor indicate it is a sepex motor. However, no Run/Tow switch indicates it isn't. Describe the plug(s) on the controller in the 1998 cart. Are there two smaller gauge wires from the controller that connect to the smaller studs on the motor? |
