Battery meters
I am new to carts and have 2008 EZ Go txt pds? 36 volt. I replaced the old batteries with crowns and must have mistaken what dealer told me was proper break in of new batteries. I thought he said run til 75% down and recharge for first 20-30 times and memory will be set and should last for 8-10 years. I am sure glad I found this forum before I damaged a new set. I down loaded the chart for SofC, VpC,6V&PkV @ 100%-10% charge with note of never discharge a battery below 50% and somewhere else to not go below 75% for first 20 cycles Also to charge batteries fully before first use.
I already broke that rule before I found this forum. I let kids drive it around for a couple of days before I used DVM to check pack and it was 37V. I put it on the cube EZ Go charger it came with and at 6 hrs checked with DVM while charging 46V 5 of 6 at 7 volts one at 8v. When full charge was achieved I was away but checked with DVM 32 hrs after charge and pack was 38.32 each at 6.39,6.37,6.39,6.396.38,6.39 the drove for 30 - 40 minutes medium and checked 38V. Is this abut correct and should I just plug it in every time after riding or wait til at least 10-20 percent down? |

Re: Battery meters
What the dealer told you, some of it was true. yes you should not go below 75% charged around 37.25 v for the first 20 or so charges, you just misunderstood what he told you about the 75%. The 8 to 10 years, i highly don't think they will last that long, they last around 5 maybe 6 years, and yes after the break in is over never go below 50% charged 50% of a 36 volt pack is 36.30

2. It depends on how long your rides are. If they are many short rides during the day, just plug in at end of day rather than after each ride. 3. If your routine usage does not take the pack below 90% SoC, intentionally take longer rides occasionally. The goal is not to let the batteries sit overnight in a partially discharged state. |
