Default TXT rear axle vent?

I got a stock 2003 TXT, the manual says there should be a plastic vent (item 7) on the drivers side axle tube housing below the motor. There is none on this cart. This isn't the first time I've noticed the lack of an axle vent even though it is clearly in the parts manual.

Did ezgo do something different on these rear axle assemblies for venting? I've not found an alternate vent.

Yeah, i have done plenty of input shaft seals & stuff on the axles with no vent. I install a vent. (pull axle shaft, & cover drill bit with grease to catch shavings, then inspect in tube for shavings when done).

I'm glad that mine is not vented. I took it underwater just this Saturday

Yes they do leak/seep. If you want to submerge it, I would rather get another vent, put the vent in a hose, pop the cap off the vent in the axle, and put the other end of the hose on that fitting.

cgtech,

When you install a vent does it matter which axle tube it goes in? I wouldn't think so but ezgo put it in long drivers side tube. Seems it would be easier on short passenger tube referring to keeping metal shavings out when drilling.

I dont think it matters which side, i do it with the axle shaft out, so i can be sure no shavings are missed. i look in the tube, and use a magnet to fish out any stragglers. Putting grease all over the drill bit collects all but the last piece of crud, just look in the tube to be sure.

This is how i keep the shavings out of the inside of the tube when drilling, use a spice bottle, or caulking tube or a red bull can or any bottle that will fit in side the axle tube, cut a slot in the tube to catch the shavings, wire a coat hanger to the bottle to slide it in out. or i have used a rubber hose and cut the slot in the hose tape the hose to your shop vac hose and slide it in the tube and turn the shop vac on and it will suck the shavings out

Yep, agreed for the catch-container, but a vacuum cant catch that last piece that was dragged up behind the axle seal (we never, ever re-use those, right, lol ). Axle seal replaced at the same time (they may be original-old anyway), then easy to be sure your clean, and no leaks...

I do the same with the vac hose , cut a slot in the hose and push it in the axle tube and the shavings fall in the hose and get sucked out
