intermittent spark

hey. any help would be kind! <244 2 cycle new plug and wire.> i took the micro swich off the fire wall and when I was moving it the spark got stronger, then stoped then went weak. can anyone give me any pointers. i guess i would say thats what it was but i thought they (the micro switch) worked or didn't. thanks for any help ...............matt

Hey, I didn't see this earlier, You can unplug the two wires from the micro and try it. If no spark use a short jumper between them and try it again.
The reason I say this is some micros are:
NC (normally closed, curcuit completed current can pass through it)
NO (normally open, curcuit broken, no current can pass)
So I don't know which yours is doing.

I tested the pulser coil, it comes back as 135...137 and the micro switch works fine.

Matt,

Let me throw this out. I had a similar intermittent spark that turned out to be the plug wire connection where it goes into the coil. Someone had replaced the wire with an automotive style and assumed that the connection at the coil was a push in snap connection like the distributor cap on a car. There is a spike in the coil connection that pushes/threads into the plug wire. The snap in connection was not making good contact. Cutting off the old connector and threading the plug wire into the coil corrected my weak/intermittent spark problem.

Thanks Marty I did replace the plug and wire first just to rule that out. I'm going to go to napa to get a gm hei module to replace the ignitor unit. I tested the pulser coil..good, the ignition coil....good, the gm ignitor is under $20. so I'm just going to replace it. See it's not sparking at all now. THe manual i got says pulser coil should be between 120-180 ohm. 1986 ezgo

its been awhile but working way too many hours at the real job! so i went and put the gm ignitor in and still no spark. don't know where to go from here? tested, did the trouble shooting crap, ohmed it out it has no spark at all now,....thanks matt

Matt,

Sounds like there is not much left except the pulse coil or the magnet that excites it. Any chance that the plug you are testing may be bad?
