Zeva BMS - something is amiss
Is there a status light and/or power light that is supposed to illuminate on the Zeva BMS? I have the Elcon charger CAN BUS enabled which is hooked up and when I connect things the Zeva screen has the alarm: No comms to EVMS
and then it displays, "ZEVA EVMS monitor waiting for data..." and nothing happens. I checked all my connections and they seem correct. I emailed Ian but not sure the time difference to AUS and when he'll view it so I'm asking the collective audience of experts. It's a ZEVA BMS16 V2. My voltmeter shows 14v across the "12V Out" and "ground" on the BMS unit. It is connected to the Elcon charger via a hall sensor from Ian also. Maybe I'm missing something obvious? or a faulty BMS? Does it mean the BMS is not communicating to the EVMS monitor? |

Re: Zeva BMS - something is amiss
Can you post a picture of your BMS unit? I believe I have v2 as well, but can't remember for sure. Mine has a status light on it. Only seen it light up solid green when on and blinking green when in sleep mode.
Maybe draw out a diagram of your wiring for us to see how you wired it all. I'll see if I have a picture of my unit, for comparison. |

Make sure the CAN-H and CAN-L wires are wired properly in all connectors.
How did you "chain" the CAN devices? The monitor is an end device (built in terminator resistor), the Elcon charger if at the end of the chain may need a 120Ω terminating resistor depending on cable length and external noise. |

Re: Zeva BMS - something is amiss
Hey guys-
For the wiring diagram I used the popular one from Jeff Caldwell. The yellow wire up top is the black wire coming off the gigavac. The LV Relay blue wire goes to the negative terminal block. The Elcon charger +/- are the red/black #10 wires to the corresponding terminal blocks. Leaving the BMS CAN BUS are 2 sets of wires, one goes to the monitor, the other goes to the current sensor. Other side of current sensor CAN BUS goes to charger. Current sensor does have a blue LED that lights up. No LEDs light up anywhere on the BMS. Ian has been trying to help also. Possible to have a broken BMS? |

Also, when I put a voltmeter across the red and black circular accessory terminal blocks should I get a reading around 58v? I don't.
What activates the Gigavac contactor to allow voltage to pass? or is that not how it works? |

Re: Zeva BMS - something is amiss
The gigavac in that setup is activated by the LV+HV relays in the zeva.
If the zeva sleep switch is connected to negative, the Zeva will not activate the gigavac. It is hard to tell from your pictures where the cell tap wires are going. Do a quick test to make sure they are all wired properly. Put the meter negative probe on terminal 00 and keep it there. Move the positive probe to each of the ports in sequence and make sure the voltage goes up by approximately 4v for each port number. Ports 14 and 16 should measure pack voltage. Is the other black wire on the terminal block going to pack negative? |

Re: Zeva BMS - something is amiss
Hey Sergio-
Yes, just checked with the voltmeter. Voltage rises for each sequential port and peak voltage at 14 and 16. Yes, the other black wire on the terminal goes to pack negative. I just took the sleep switch off and it has the same behavior. |

Re: Zeva BMS - something is amiss
I believe that I have a faulty BMS. I can find no other reason.
There is no status LED lighting up at all...ever. I have checked all my wiring a dozen times. I will talk to Ian some more. |
