Open sourced/IKEA/kit-cart electric golf cart?
Over the past few months, I've been drinking from a firehose learning about EV golf carts. Fixing old ones, enhancing new ones, breaking other ones, etc and it made me think, why can't I build one of these from scratch?
The effort to build 1 from scratch is definitely not worth it, but has anyone ever considered a community project where members from BGW and other golf cart enthusiasts essentially design and source plans/parts for a few styles of kit-carts? The idea would essentially be:
We could eliminate the things we hate (proprietary programming cables/software), improve on the little things that manufacturers skimp on to save a buck (multiple temperature sensors, higher quality materials, etc), and potentially save a decent amount of money. The goal would be super customizable so you can just bolt on whatever features you want. The frame and a few custom components we could work with a reputable fabricator and order 10 at a time or something. A family member of mine is an electrical engineer with an expertise in EV BMS systems (helped design for Tesla) and runs a huge college EV go-kart racing program who I'd get involved for the battery/bms stuff to make sure it's done right. Thoughts? |
