Re: Solenoid activated F&R
As Scotty already mentioned, the biggest gain is in convience. Older people (especially those with Arthritis) have a hard time with the shift lever on E-Z-GO carts.
Other benefits I have seen...... 1. I have never had a meltdown on a solenoid from excessive resistance as many of us have seen on standard F&R boards. WR solenoids are rated for 200 AMPS cont and 400 PEAK.... not many F&R boards can sustain those numbers for long run times without resistance building...... 2. On stretched carts (6 or 8 passenger models), you are able to keep all of the power wiring at the rear of the cart (closer to the motor) therefore having less chance of a wire getting snagged by a branch under the cart as well as less loss of power due to "voltage drop" from long runs of cable. 3. Neater/Cleaner appearance of the wiring and associated parts. 4. Absolute Neutral. Once power is removed from the directional solenoids, there is no chance of a "bleed through" of power to the motor. In the next few days I am going to be putting together one of the power boxes I use on my E-Z-GO builds and I will take a couple of pics of the setup for others to see and post them to this thread. |

Re: Solenoid activated F&R
Cool, outside of the solenoids, what kind of fnr switch are you using, In your picture you show a pot micro, where is this one, is this the one in the floor board? I basically understand your wiring just getting a better idea of it.

Re: Solenoid activated F&R
I have used both the E-Z-GO PDS F&R as well as the Club Car IQ F&R (I actually installed a Club Car IQ F&R assy box on an E-Z-GO for a customer once because they wanted the switch in the same position on the seat wrap.....weird, but the customer is always right lmao.....)
For the pot Micro, depending on the car you are installing it on, either the PB6 Pot has a micro on it (Marathon) or use the Micro in the pedal box (TXT) or the V-Glide (Club Car) |

Re: Solenoid activated F&R
As promised, here is how I set this system up.
Note I still need buss bars at the top and bottom of the (2) 6 pole solenoids to connect them together and the wires going to the motor are obviously not connected yet. |

Re: Solenoid activated F&R
That is a 700 AMP GE controller. The small black box is a Throttle converter for using the ITS throttle with it. This particular controller works in Club Car (5k-0), Yamaha (0-1k) and E-Z-GO (using the throttle converter). If you look closely at the top of the small black box, the stock 5 pin connector plugs right into it
