Default 2 club car ds's

A lady in our park has 2 club car ds carts. 1 is a 36 volt cart with a alltrax npx4834, 0-5k controller. and runs nice.
The second cart is a 1995/6 club car 48 volt with newer batteries obc bypass with a new charger. But the cart is very very slow.
cart number 1 will need batteries soon.
the lady would like a 48 volt cart because of the new battery charger.
I want to fix one of them for her and in return she will give me the other one.
Will the controller in the 36 volt cart take 48 volt?

Pretty sure the 95-96 is a 5k-0. What is the serial # on the 48v? What throttle system is in it?

IDK about the alltrax. What does it say on it?

Most controllers are not supportive of different voltage. Normally Alltrax controllers the operating voltage is the first two numbers in the model number. So a 48xxx would be a 48v controller, but that seems like it may be an older controller and that may not apply. If someone here doesn’t know, you should be able to find out through alltrax support.

If the 48v cart has the old pot box style throttle it may not be giving the full throttle command to the controller. The early carts were not exactly fast anyway, but any type of throttle signal issue would make a big difference. 14-15mph would be a likely top speed assuming everything is working properly.
It would help to know if that’s a series cart or Sepex drive. Does it have a large lever style FnR switch or is it the small push button rocker switch type?

It's a 96, does it have a throttle linkage that goes to a box on the LEFT (driver's side) side underneath?

Yes the Alltrax is capable of 48v according to the specs on their website.

I think your right the alltrex NPX 4834 looks to be a 48 volt 300 amp controller.

I think that I will take the 36 volt cart apart clean it up paint it blue pearl put her 8 volt batteries in it then change the charging port so she can keep her new charger

I have on hand a set of rear roof supports from a newer club car with the newer roof I may try to put that on then get her a new windshield

Jim, be sure to check and replace/upgrade as needed your main contactor/solenoid. That 36v is probably not designed for 48v and I would have at least a 200a on there. You will also need a larger precharge resistor (470 Ohm 10 Watt) and a 1 amp voltage suppression diode. Use a 3 amp if you use a 400a solenoid.

Make sure it’s an independent 48v charger too- not an OBC controlled power drive model.
