Default 97 Gasser idles but doesn't accelerate

My 97 Gasser Idles but the engine won't accelerate.

It initially did this a couple of times yesterday morning.
I pumped the throttle a few times and it caught and ran. Last evening and this morning, it will not run past idle. I am no golf cart mechanic, and probably don't live within 100 miles of one.

A visual inspection of the engine compartment looks normal. It is full of fuel. The air cleaner is clean.
I am befuddled.

Any solutions?

Identify and inspect all moving parts of the throttle linkage from the peddle to the carburetor .... now with the seat and key off push the peddle by hand and see if the linkage is intact and functioning? So that the throttle plate in the carb is moving when you push the peddle?

With you so far...

Had to locate a T15 driver to remove the linkage cover.

All the cables work. (although there appears to have been some stretch over time)

The butterfly works. (felt through the venturi while operating fuel pedal)

Drained some fuel from gas line into a chamois, no indication of water.

Cranked engine with fuel line off carb- fuel pump working.

Next?

no to be rude wcf, but if it idles, you know that it runs, just not as fast a s you want it. when you mash the acc. pedal down, and it opens the butterfly in the carb does it die out? or just idles? sounds to me if it dies out, its a carb problem. you are getting gas to idle, but if you mash it down and dies its either staving for fuel, or to much fuel. ussauly starving. the fuel pump is vacum cotrolled. i might suggest that you pull the carb of and give it a good cleaning. it will take about an hour and a can of carb and choke,. this will clean all the apssages and the jeats and needles. if ist cant get out of the bowl, it cant run!

Glad you got it worked out,
Would you share what the problem was?
Just might help the next person.

just found this on another post:

fromWCF:
On mine, I opened the drain plug on the bottom side of the carb bowl, then removed the bowl.
It was difficult to see, but some bit of minutia fell out of the needle valve area when I manipulated the float.
I suspect it was keeping the float or needle valve from moving. Seeing nothing else wrong, I reassembled the carb, and tried it out. Success!
