yes you should defiantly be faster than that. some guys are hitting in the mid 20's but most are around 22mph. Mine personally i havnt checked plus i need to tune my carb after i have replaced my crank seals. I also think i slipped the timing a bit when i changed my crank seal on the fan side

I have a brand new top end (10 over), new crank seal, clean carb, new belt, and had a good o' fashion muffler bbq. Any suggestion on why it may be slow? How's the timing set? I put it back where it was be for I changed crank seals.

They will go pretty fast, I had a slightly modified one that went around 30mph according to the motorcycle next to me going down a paved road. Of course it was only 4yr old at the time lol. I had messed with the exhaust port by hand, decked the head, advanced the timing, and worked on the clutch though that only helps low speed performance. It would get a whole lot of rpm but it took over 100yd to get it wound up. I could get the tire to smoke on pavement sitting still, must be the left brake was stronger. Sure wish I still had it. But to start with it was the fastest feeling cart out of 60, so that helped. They all went different speeds with the governor clamped.

You might check the reed block and make sure it opens all the way. Advance the timing until it goes slower in reverse is what I did. Make sure the pipe/muffler is not plugged inside it should have a little crackle at idle plugged ones seem to sound muffled. I read the odd year G1 that has a different cylinder had smaller ports. Once I had a jump about 2' high and maybe a 80' run and jumped another G1 cart, what fun I had back then lol. With two people in a gravel drive that cart would powerslide endlessly, so they can make pretty good power when everything is right. No it was no ATV or anything, but it was surprising. My lifted G9 will do 28gps on dirt and 30 on pavement, it seems to be similar speed to that G1. I might have ran that G1 miles down the road at times, but I'll never tell. I worked on that cart a lot, I may have modded other things I forgot but it was all stock parts.

If I ever get another one, and I'd like to, I will cut the muffler open and inspect it.

I ran mine with a gps. When I first purchase it, it would do a repeatable 25.5 mph on flat pavement. Since I've straightened out the front wheel alignment and put a little more air in the tires. Might be a good for a mph or so.
