1985 G1 does not rev to max rpm

I'd pull that thing apart and soak it in some warm soapy water. Get the brush out and do some scrubbing to get the dirt off. Rinse and soak again. Rinse well. Lay it out on a towel to dry overnight, blow a fan on it. Use carb cleaner on the jets, never use compressed air. Reassemble and install.

I've done this on 3 G1 carbs, 1 G2 carb, weed eaters, chain saws, blowers, mowers, etc. Works great.

The only thing that will cause the carb to overflow is a bad float or a pump that has too much pressure. The G1 fuel pump is very low pressure 1-2 psi, barely pumps in my opinion, but it doesn't take much to fill that tiny bowl. Just barely over gravity feed. Gravity feed will flow more.

Try the old carb after it's clean and dry. Can you post a video?

I agree, stock carbs are usually better and just need cleaning to work.

Yamah did use different carbs I am told and some don't work well on other ones, though the engines are so similar I wonder why.
