My New Modified G1
So I haven't been here much, as I had sold my 1986 EZGO a while back. This week I just picked up a 1985 Yamaha G1.
It has a 1998 4-stroke 301CC Yamaha engine. Lifted w/ air shocks in the rear and brackets and coil overs in the front. Custom Cage and bumpers. Aluminum wheels. Aftermarket dash for stereo. 99% rust free except the battery box. Clean Arizona cart. Licensed for Street legal use. Needed a starter/generator and a battery and a little TLC. Paid $800 for the cart as is. My only question is the rear axle on this cart. It has a lever coming out of the top which I assume is for reverse but they never made a linkage to use it. I don't think it works as it just moves back and forth freely. Does anyone know how that works and what it might take to get reverse working again? I'm guessing this axle came from the 1998 cart that the engine came from. It feels like something inside the axle may have come loose from the linkage arm. I've added some pics. |

Re: My New Modified G1
That's the stock G1 rearend. The linkage on top is for the governor.
You won't have reverse with that setup. |

Re: My New Modified G1
Ahh that explains it. It was tied with wire so it doesnt move i guess ill just leave it as is. The cart pushes easy enough i wont need reverse. Either way was this a decent buy for 800?
My other question is the seats.. Has anyone seen these black Yamaha bucket seats for sale anywhere? I just wanna replace the driver seat but a quick search didnt turn up anything.. Just a black bucket branded with the Yamaha logo |

If it runs good, it was a great buy. The G1 is bullet-proof. It is the most over-engineered golf cart you will find.

Re: My New Modified G1
Someone did some pretty good work on that cart. Can't believe they didn't change the rear.
I thought I wouldn't need reverse either, but one day you'll have to do as I did once...... get off and push it. Of course, I was running thru the woods on my property and it was my fault. LOL I think you did well on that one. |

Re: My New Modified G1
I think you made an excellent buy on that cart. Very nice looking.
When I converted mine to diesel I thought that I could get by without reverse. Changed my mind after having to push it backwards from a couple of bad places. Now reverse is just a twist away and it's nice. |
