Those spacers are known to crack if you tighten them too much so be careful, but I never seen one blow apart like that. If they crack you get an air leak and they don't run right. But if that one is original it is an antique.

I got my new solenoid in, does it matter how the small terminals are hooked up? I installed it today and still nothing, it will turn over when I hook a jumper cable to the starter though
