Question regarding Forward/Reverse micro switches
Hi All,
I have a question regarding my new to me 1997 EZGO DCS electric cart. The Mfg. code is B0496 and the serial number is 924426. I have reason to believe that my reverse micro switch might be bad. I can check that but I noticed that when I move the switch handle to the reverse notch both the forward and reverse switches close. When I am in the forward position only the forward switch is closed. When in reverse are both micro switches closed ? Any comments would be much appreciated. Thanks Don |

Re: Question regarding Forward/Reverse micro switches
That sounds correct. The forward switch basically is a run switch to tell the cart to move. When the reverse one closes as well it tells the controller to go backwards

Re: Question regarding Forward/Reverse micro switches
Hi kgsc
Thanks for the quick reply. I ohmed out the reverse micro switch and it seems flakey. Varies from 50 ohms to 50 meg. Never the same twice. I am going to replace it no matter what. As you might have guessed, I have forward but no reverse. The guy I bought the cart from said that he could get the cart to reverse but he had to mess around with the reverse MS. Thanks again Don |

Re: Question regarding Forward/Reverse micro switches
Welcome to BGW!
BTW, your manufacturing code makes this cart a 96, not a 97. And, it probably doesn't matter one bit as far as parts and function go. Does the cart run at all? |

Re: Question regarding Forward/Reverse micro switches
Hi,
The cart runs great! GPS speed is 18 mph. My other 1999 only goes 14. I am really new to this electric cart culture as my previous ride was a 1990 Corvette ZR1 also have a Subaru Outback LLBean. I have given up Vettes in favor of a more age appropriate fun thing to drive and work on. I do all my own work on what I drive and I have plenty of tools to do the job. After I get reverse back I am going to tackle the sloppy front end steering. Should be fun. I just ordered a new R micro switch from Amazon and I hope it will fix the "no reverse" issue. Keep your fingers crossed. Cheers Don Sun City Hilton Head, SC |

Re: Question regarding Forward/Reverse micro switches
18mph probably indicates a Freedom model with a 400 amp OEM controller. The controller is probably a longish finned aluminum case instead of the standard squareish black plastic unit.

Re: Question regarding Forward/Reverse micro switches
The serial number returns the following on the EZGO serial number lookup site:
Make: TXT Type: Electric 36 V Model: TXT Standard (DCS) Year: 1996 Also, the specs for a DCS Freedom is the same as a DCS Fleet. IE: speed 12-14 MPH. (The difference is factory installed lights.) I suspect the cart has tires taller than stock (18"), or an aftermarket controller, maybe an Alltrax DCX. ------------- This is the part needed, hopefully what you ordered will work. https://shop.ezgo.com/products/Rever...roduct_id=1817 ----------- Attached are some things that you may find useful. |

I had good help here with my DCS reverse microswitch.
Cart sometimes would not go into reverse and there was no reverse tone. If I had the cart in reverse and just pulled the microswitch lever with my finger, I would get the tone and switch would work again sort of...for a while. After replacing it, so far so good. Re: Question regarding Forward/Reverse micro switches
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all for the info you all provided. JohnnieB, Thanks for the info. I checked the tires and they are 18x9.5x8. Must be the controller. Here is where I stand now. Confirmed the bad reverse MS. Shorted the R MS pins in the reverse MS male connector and verified that the PS works and the cart goes in reverse. New OEM switch on the way. All the lights work but no beep tone. Tightened up the steering. This was a good day thanks to everyone that helped. I thought the Corvette Forums were OK but all you folks are GREAT! Thanks Again, Don ps: I will be back |
