Default 2003 Club Car DS Gas - Belt Squeal

Have a 2003 Club Car DS with Kawasaki gas engine and am brand new to owning a golf cart. Really enjoying it but think it needs a drive belt and/or alternator belt. One of them squeals under harder acceleration or heavier loads (e.g. 4 people in cart going up a hill). Any troubleshooting tips or inspection guidance so I can narrow down and confirm the cause?

Welcome to BGW 2003CCDS!

Most likely it's your drive belt squealing under load, It's time to get a new one!
While your at it... you might as well replace the S/G belt also!

Thanks, I'll start shopping for one.

Also, what is the recommended max rpm for these Kawasaki 9hp engines? I want to keep it in the safe range.

The heavy duty drive belt from cart parts plus is a good investment.

Have you determined which belt is squealing?
Have you checked he belts for wear?
Have you checked the tension on the S/G belt or tightened it?
Does it drive OK uphill with 4 people on it or do you think the drive belt is slipping and causing a loss of power to the wheels with that load?
While you may need one or both belts replaced, it's nice to figure out and know what the problem is before just throwing parts and money at it and hopefully solving the problem.

mrlmd: Thanks, valid questions. I started shopping around for drive belts, but don't plan to buy one until I confirm the cause. Already plan to check the condition and tightness of both belts. Current symptoms point to the drive belt because the rpms and squeal noise increase under a heavier load but the cart doesn't move faster. I live 8DCLCA all day at work, so that will be my approach. :)

Here's the deal...
A worn S/G belt squeals at start up,
A worn drive belt squeals under load, (going uphill with 4 people on the cart)
its as simple as that!

Replacing the belts would be standard maintenance, and it needs to be done at regular intervals!
It is NOT "throwing parts and money at it!"

If those are original belts 13 years old, they should both be replaced.

New belt purchased, delivered and now finally installed. Easy to remove the old belt, a little challenging to install the new one, it was a very tight fit. Cart is now more responsive to the accelerator and has no squeal - even under a load or up hill!

Hey gents
Just picked up a 2008 cc ss gas. Doing pre-season maintenance and want to pick up new belts including a severe duty drive belt. I noticed prices for these vary wildly between vendors. As low as $50 all the way up to well over $100. My question is, is there a particular manufacturer of belts that is better than others, or will any "severe duty" belt do?
Thanks
