Question PowerTron Battery Mislabeled

I have a 36v system with 6 PowerTron P2000 batteries that have been giving me fits. I decided to check the voltage output of each battery with a meter and found that one of the batteries reads a negative output. Thinking that I got the leads mixed up, I checked and tested again, still 6v negative output. I then intentionally reverse the leads (red meter lead to battery negative and black meter lead to battery positive) and received a positive 6v output. Has anyone see this before? It appears that the battery is mislabeled or am I missing something. The other 5 batteries tested normal and fine.

While rare this can happen to a battery if it goes flat out dead (NO VOLTAGE) from being hooked up backwards, it then gets charged backwards and there you have it. They are generally not savable once noticed...

Actually I have seen it fixable. Drain the battery all the way down again and charge correctly.

Thanks Teecro, that makes more since than being mislabeled. I guess it has become a core at this point to trade for a new one.

You can try reversing it by first killing it will a load such as 6 volt headlight bulb and then trying to recharge it the correct direction, it is always worth a try. But if it is not holding voltage like it should even if backwards then in my opinion it is toast...
