Default 98 ds Starter Generator Issue

I recently had to replace the starter generator on my club car. Seemed easy enough. I purchased one from E Bay and installed it. After about 30 minutes running it stalled out. It began to smoke. The kids where on it so they didn't think of shutting the key. (buggy is set up to idle) When I got over and shut it off it had already roasted positive cable to the starter, ground strap and then the brake cables. Did not find anyplace the positive cable could have arced. Is it possible the started caused a dead short?

If it started with no problem, and ran that long it sounds to me like it shorted out.

Chinese knock off will get you every time. Amazon and eBay are about useless these days with these type parts.

Sounds like it. About $40 for a set of quality brushes and you can put that original back in the cart and it will last you another 20 years.
