Idles but won't go.
My BIL has an older club car, unknown year. But it does have a vacuum hose to the fuel pump. I play with him and he can't keep it going for the entire round. We reach the back nine and it idles but will not gain the rpm to go. The fuel in the lower fuel filter seemed to be low so I replaced the fuel pump and we went for awhile and then the problem happened again. The shop ran it around for awhile and thought they had it fixed by changing a belt. It happened again and would only idle. Bouncing it around and getting some fuel in the filter and it would go . Lines have been blown out in the past and were clear. We thought the gas cap was not venting thus causing a lack of fuel so the grounds keeper punched a hole in it. Does it use an unvented qas cap and this could be our problem? For some unknown reason we must not be getting enough gas to the system.

Maybe replace the fuel lines. If the pulse line has a a crack/hole whatever it can cause this.
Also, make sure you are not picking up sediment from the bottom of the tank clogging the pickup tube. |

Re: Idles but won't go.
Golf carts dont idle. I'm thinking "idle" is just the starter/generator turning but the engine isnt really running.
By the sounds of it, it gets hot and quits running. I would bet ignition coil. If.you could provide the serial number of the cart, we can know what year it is and provide better help to get it going again. By the way, what is a BIL? |

I think he's means BROTHER IN LAW. Y'all figure this out but if he 's not getting fuel like he says he is not, no amount of spark is ever going to make it run.

Re: Idles but won't go.
The pump works on an air PULSE from the crankcase. Not vacuum.
The pulse hose needs to be short enough so that it goes UP the entire way from the engine to the pump. If it hangs down in the middle it will get oil in the hose and that will block the Pulse of air from actuating the diaphragm in the pump. = no fuel That or the ignition coil or rev limiter is heating up and failing. Easy check, put a spare spark put in the plug wire and lay it on top of the engine, crank it over and see if it shows consistent blue spark. |
