battery fail: melted terminal
The battery set is about 2 years old. It recently died suddenly during use. Then, it wouldn't take a charge. I had to retry charging about 6 times before it would start charging and I began thinking the charger was at fault, but it eventually took a 2 hour charge. But, it only lasted a few minutes after that charge before dying. I then took a close look under the seat and found this:
Batteries overview Close up: Close up I opened the cells of each battery and all of them were submerged and very clean looking. What are my options? **It occurred to me right after posting that if that terminal is toast, the giant one right next to it might still be ok. What are the chances that I could be ok simply by wiring a new connection terminal on that will fit to the automotive terminal right next to it? |

Re: battery fail: melted terminal
Melted terminal is a fairly common problem caused by poor cable connections. Sometimes you can install a stud in the post and save the battery. Connections must be clean and tight or you generate lots of heat - enough to melt the lead in your case.

Cable is shot also...I try to feel around all my cables/connections occasionally after a long ride to for anything that is warm. It indicates something wrong/bad. Catches things like this before it does a lot of damage.

Re: battery fail: melted terminal
Several years ago I had the same thing happen. I cut the cable and used a heavy duty automotive cable end on that battery. It worked fine for the rest of the battery's life- no overheat problems etc. Maybe not the best solution but it worked for me.
