94 ezgo marathon 36v issues

If anyone has any info that could help me I would appreciate it. I have 94 ezgo marathon 36v that I got for free so I started rebuilding it. I got it running now with new batterie’s, charger, forward reverse switch, potentiometer, solenoid. I finally got the cart to run. However, when the key switch is to the left the cart starts accelerating without anyone putting pedal down. And when I put it to the right it works as it should and accelerates only when you put the pedal down. So with that being said the cart doesn’t shut off. And the next issue is that the cart accelerated for a while but then shuts off and I’m not sure what is causing that since the batteries are completely charged.
