Using a key switch for starting
I am considering using a key switch with a start position to start my 93 xt500, instead of using the foot petal. I am not that familiar with the start mechanism. Is there any reason that I should not or can not convert it over?
Thanks, Rick |

So,, Could you start it in neutral and shift into forward or reverse while running? I doubt it but don't know for sure. Its been cold here and I had been thinking of ways I could let the cart warm up- - I've got a 98 TXT

Your should be able to start it in any of the three. Untill you increase the throddle the cluch will not engage. My question is how does the motor shut off. Do you need to short to ground?

Re: Using a key switch for starting
I understand that it has to do with turning the key off. But when you turn the key of does the key switch short the ignition to ground or just disconnect the ignition?

Re: Using a key switch for starting
I'm just playing with you. It disconnects the ignition. On my cart (94 gxt804 four stroke 295) it is literally a matter of turning a screw. Or if you want to try it out you could just put something small in there then adjust your throttle to idle.
As far as shifting while the motors running, I wouldn't recommend it. I've accidentally shifted when the motor was off but the clutches were still turning, it makes a nasty sound. But you could definitely warm it up in neutral (parking brake for safety), then just flip the key off, shift, turn the back to on, and continue with the sweet smokey burnouts. WELCOME TO BGW |
