2000 G16a jetting and torque/power kit installation
I'm almost done with my cart project after 70+ hours of work... I just installed a zemco header and UNI air filter (exhaust kit from jakes)... the kit came with a small drill bit im assuming is for drilling out the main jet on my carburator. Should I drill the jet out or buy a new jet to accommodate the engine's need for more juice? Second question, has anyone installed the power/torque kit from jake's and if so how long did it take?

Re: 2000 G16a jetting and torque/power kit installation
Dogg, I got nothin here thats gonna help you. But I have a G8 with a 285cc motor. Exhaust is stock, intake is gutted. I run this from 1000' to 6500' elevation, the jet is drilled out to .042. Picked up a lot of throttle response when its at the 1000' elev. 6500 is kinda lazy, but plug still reads good.
You got a bigger motor, that Zemco is gonna be neat, and at sea level, you have alot more to gain than I. So I would think that jet drill would be bigger than even .046. I know your worried about drilling it to large, but if your close to sea level, you have a lot to gain!! |

Re: 2000 G16a jetting and torque/power kit installation
Thanks Mike, im in Florida so I'm guessing that I am close to sea level... so larger than a .046 huh? I'll check what they have at the hardware store I'll start at .046 and go up from there, before I added the zemco and uni equipment it was running right at 30mph with the larger wheels, so we'll seewhere it goes from there! I am also thinking about adding the jakes power kit... this is my first build and i've done everything myself i'll post some better pics a little later, let me know what you think

Re: 2000 G16a jetting and torque/power kit installation
Think Mike is right @ .046. I tried one of Jakes muffler/filter kits. They did not send the drill bit? I tried it with the stock jet-what a DOG! Called them and they said only needed for a Ezgo I drilled with .046 and much better. The other problem was the filter was hitting the gas tank (was installed on a stock car/not lifted) so I fabbed/cut the air box 90 degree mount and some other parts to make it mount vertically. We ended up taking the system off. The owner thought it sounded to much like a loud lawn mower

Re: 2000 G16a jetting and torque/power kit installation
Mine GPS's at 26 MPH, it can touch 27 on a good day (wind at my back, or down hill??) but I on purpose, have it so the throttle only opens about 80%. 30 MPH is great if your really getting it!! Good for you! And at sea level, could be!
Otto, many others would know better than me, but you might be leaving some on the table. I'd check your clutch articulation. You might be able to maintenance your way to a couple MPH. more! Also, check with others wether a stock motor can pull tall tires and tall gears. That may be to much. |
