Speed expectation for 76 Taylor Dunn
I finally got around to pulling the old 76 out of the barn at my dad's. After setting for 20 plus years, I put new batteries and was excited to hit the pedal and to have it run.
After cosmetic work and a few parts (rheositor coil, etc) it gets us around, albeit slowly. Before I start replacing wiring, master control board, etc. or pulling the motor; should I expect more than 5-6 mph on flat surface and a crawl up hills? This thing is a tank and the old Ford rear-end weighs more than most newer carts as a whole. My expectations are not high, just curious. Has anyone ever converted an old cart such as this to solid state? Thanks! first post, so apologies if pics don't come through. |

Re: Speed expectation for 76 Taylor Dunn
I recently converted an old resistor ezgo western to solid state. It was quite heavy and the old people who owned it lived on top of a big hill. It melted the wiper board 3 times in as many years.... I removed the wiper board and resistor coils and just wired up a basic Alltrax controller in there with a potentiometer and solenoid. It was really pretty straight forward. but even with the controller the performance of the cart was not impressive because it is old and too heavy. But if you are working on the cart for sentimental reasons it may be the way for you to go ...

Thanks ScottyB, might just get around to doing that. I love a good challenge anyway. I assume you had to work in a F/R switch as well?

It is slow, but it will get away from you going down a hill! Gravity doing it's thing...
