Default Charger plug issue..wiring

I have a charger that I bought of ebay a few years ago. The problem is, the plug handle that plugs into the cart receptacle came apart from the cord that attaches it to the charger. It is a crowsfoot style plug so has a + and - metal bar extending out of it. They are labled + and - on the plug. The problem is the cord came out so I am not sure which wire hooks to the + and which wire hooks to the - bar for reattachment. The wire colors are black and white.

Any help? or at least any way to determine which is which...thanks a bunch

White should be + but you know anyone could change that around in the charger if they really want to.

If you can confirm the location and polarity of the terminals on the cart,(follow the cables from the back side of the cart's receptacle to the battery post) then I would hook up the charger wiring so the white wire goes to the + terminal, (black obviously to negative)insert the plug into the cart (and watch where the smoke is coming from) and wait for the confirming click from the charger before you plug the other end into the wall outlet!

If it is not a clicky type charger then it ought to be smart enough at least to abort charging or indicate error or reverse voltage or something.

This just how I would do it so don't hold me responsible if you catch something on fire!

With the power cord unplugged, take a regular 110V light bulb and hook it in series with the charger plug. If it lights ( it will be very dim ) you have the connections reversed. There should be no current flowing when the leads are correct. As was said before, Black should be negative and white or red should be positive. I just went through this same thing on mine!

My charger had belonged to an electrician, so he wired it like a house, in which the black is hot and the neutral line is white.
