Default G1 ramp shoes

Hello everybody, i have a 81 g1 and need to replace ramp shoes for the clutch, is it a hard job? I think i need a pully? How are the shoes held on? Thanks. Any tips would help.

It will be easier to replace them if the clutch is taken apart. You will need a puller to remove it. If I remember right you will need 6mm bolts to thread into the outer sheave. Heres a tip... you can pull two bolts out of the flywheel cover and use those. However I have replaced the shoes without removing the clutch but it wasnt easy. You will find that the studs on the new ramp shoes seem to be a little large... take a knife and widdle the studs down so they will go into the helix easier. Heres a tip... put a little bit of grease on it and tap it in slowly. Don't force it because it will break. Good luck with it.

Mike... You should be able to drive them out with a center punch from the back. I was also able to do this with the clutch installed. Theres not a lot of room to work at all but it is possible.
